About Brian
Welcome! I am Brian Grenier, the host and author here at Bump on the Blog. I have been an educator since 1996 when I first moved to El Paso, Texas (USA). My education experience has included eight years in a high school classroom where I taught the Social Studies curriculum to students in grades 9-12. While I had the opportunity to teach nearly every subject that falls under the secondary Social Studies umbrella, I most enjoyed my time teaching World Geography and World History to students in grades nine and ten. Following my time spent in the classroom, I worked for the El Paso ISD as a Program Assistant and helped design, create, and implement an online Social Studies curriculum for students in grades 9-12. This online curriculum served as, not only a “safety net” for at-risk students, but also as a way for teachers and students to enrich and reinforce the key concepts learned in the classroom. Currently, I am a Technology Coordinator for eight schools (PK-12) in the El Paso ISD. My primary focus now is helping teachers integrate technology into their classroom and curriculum. I lead numerous and frequent staff development opportunities for the nearly 500 educators I directly work with.
I grew up in Moline, Illinois, attended the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN where I earned my BA in History and Social Studies, and shortly thereafter moved to El Paso, Texas where I began my career in public education. Nearly a decade after moving to El Paso I enrolled in the graduate program at the University of Texas at El Paso and graduated, top of my class, with my Masters of Business Administration degree in May of 2007. I am a lifelong member of Beta Gamma Sigma, TCEA, and ISTE. I am a Discovery STAR Educator, an Intel Master Teacher, and as of April 1, 2009 I will be the Area 19 Director for the TCEA Board of Directors.
Bump on the Blog serves as a place for me to, not only reflect and grow personally in my profession, but also provides a means for me to share my thoughts on education and educational technology with my audience. I encourage my readers to add their commentary on any and all of my posts, and firmly believe that through these “conversations” we grow and learn. While most of my posts fall under the “education/educational technology” umbrella, you will find that from time to time I also include thoughts and musing from other topics that interest me. In addition to the thoughts I post here, I also maintain the ClassroomTech wiki that supports the numerous workshops I lead.
Outside of my professional interests and responsibilities I enjoy fly fishing and spending time with my wife Walkira (a high school Spanish teacher) and my son Aidan Francisco.
